Acquisition of language requirement

Preparation for prolonged stay in Germany

Supplementation of individual academic careers

Preparation for national and international careers in both academic and non-academic sectors, meeting the demands of careers requiring expertise in multi- and transnational contexts

Potential non-academic employers placing emphasis on intercultural experience include museums, festival organization, the media and publishing, advertising and public relations, consulting, international organizations and government organizations dealing with cultural relations, as well as multinational private business companies in various areas of industry.

Faculty

The program is taught by specialists in their various disciplines. Instructors have a wide range of specializations and cultural interests and encourage trans- and interdisciplinary approaches in classwork.

Requirements and Admission

The program invites all students intending to spend a study-abroad semester/year at the University of Würzburg or already registered there, irrespective of their chosen courses of study. Excellent English-language skills constitute the sole precondition for participation in the program. These skills can be documented by a Bachelor of Arts degree in English or American Studies, by the Cambridge Proficiency Exam (CPE), the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or an equivalent language certificate. A good command of German is helpful but not obligatory.
Prospective students are expected to have a distinctive interest in the field of intercultural studies and in the relevant areas of German culture.

Additional Offers

Every semester the program offers also extracurricular activities. Manifold events outside the classroom include receptions by state authorities and visits to local museums, as well as guided tours and excursions (e.g., to Bamberg). Social life is fostered by a wine tasting and a brewery visit.
