Key Facts and Objectives
The program is addressed to students from all countries and disciplines who wish to augment their intercultural skills and to gain a better understanding of Germany as their host country
One-semester course program fits into ten-week period:
May 14 to July 20 in Summer 2012
October 15 to December 21 in Winter 2012
May 13 to July 19 in Summer 2013.
One-year stay, equivalent to two complete semesters, optional
Classes open to both students from abroad and German students of the University of Würzburg
Participants free to select and attend one or more classes according to their preferences and interests
Interdisciplinary and internationally orientated classes designed to promote intercultural competence and advance more profound insights into key aspects of German civilization:
History, Politics, the Law, the Economy, the Arts, etc.
Opportunity to interact and enhance/practice English-language proficiency inside and outside of the classroom
Language of instruction: English

Perspectives
Classes may be taken for credit within the framework of modularized study programs, e. g. the BA, but the program as such does not offer an own final graduation (BA, MA).
Acquisition of language requirement
Preparation for prolonged stay in Germany
Supplementation of individual academic careers
Preparation for national and international careers in both academic and non-academic sectors, meeting the demands of careers requiring expertise in multi- and transnational contexts
Potential non-academic employers placing emphasis on intercultural experience include museums, festival organization, the media and publishing, advertising and public relations, consulting, international organizations and government organizations dealing with cultural relations, as well as multinational private business companies in various areas of industry
Faculty
The program is taught by specialists in their various disciplines. Instructors have a wide range of specializations and cultural interests and encourage trans- and interdisciplinary approaches in classwork.
Requirements and Admission
The program invites all students intending to spend a study-abroad semester/year at the University of Würzburg or already registered there, irrespective of their chosen courses of study. Excellent English-language skills constitute the sole precondition for participation in the program. These skills can be documented by a Bachelor of Arts degree in English or American Studies, by the Cambridge Proficiency Exam (CPE), the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or an equivalent language certificate. A good command of German is helpful but not obligatory.
Prospective students are expected to have a distinctive interest in the field of intercultural studies and in the relevant areas of German culture.
